#87 - Life in Still Water - Fates Warning - Parallels (1991)

Parallels may not the best Fates Warning album, but this track is their finest in my opinion. It manages to perfectly bridge Fates Warning's metal side and prog side, and as such achieves the closest to perfection they can possibly achieve.

Everytime you post a new song, you force me to go get the album and give it a spin!

Fates Warning is a great band that never gets any credit. When was the last time anyone really talked about them? The last album, X, was released in 2004 and it really didn't get much coverage in the Metal press.

This track is good but the sound seems dated. It is 1991 though...I think it's the drums that bother me a bit. Ray Adler's voice is in fine form.

X was a disappointment for me, especially after Disconnected, which I liked. But you are right, FW is a real good outfit that usually does not get their due.

I tend to like their earlier material more as in 1984-86.

Mark - I agree to an extent. I guess in that era, I viewed it as the whole was greater than the sum of its parts. I like The Spectre Within, but one track does not really stand out to me.

I prefer the John Arch era (Night On Brocken, The Spectre Within, Awaken The Guardian) because that was my intro to Fates way back when.

I never picked up X, or Disconnected either.....I'll have to look for some good used copies next trip out.
